The challenge
Bahrain's National Bureau for Revenue requires VAT returns in a specific Excel-based format with Bahraini tax-code mappings that differ from the standard Xero chart of accounts. Mizan's accountants were manually reclassifying transactions and rebuilding the NBR template spreadsheet for each of their 55 clients every quarter, consuming 154 total hours of accountant time. Copy-paste errors resulted in NBR submission rejections on an average of 4 clients per quarter.
The solution
Lirevon built a Xero webhook connector that pulls transactions in real time and applies a deterministic Bahrain NBR code-mapping ruleset covering 94 transaction types. A 7-rule anomaly engine flags missing VAT numbers, misclassified zero-rated supplies, and input-tax rounding errors before submission. The final NBR-format XML is generated alongside a branded Arabic client PDF summarising tax position and any flagged anomalies.

VAT return preparation time per client fell from 2.8 hours to 17 minutes, saving 141 accountant hours per quarter
NBR submission rejection rate dropped to zero — no resubmissions required in the four quarters post-launch
