Overview

Mobile-first halal prepaid wallet using Medusa's open-source commerce engine as the transaction ledger and order management layer, backed by Supabase Postgres. Features Sharia-compliant spend controls, family sub-wallet delegation, and KNET top-up.

The challenge

The client needed a transaction ledger that could handle multi-wallet hierarchies and Sharia-compliant product filters without building a commerce backend from scratch, and the existing banking middleware had no open API for direct integration.

The solution

Our approach

We repurposed Medusa's order and product management primitives as the wallet transaction engine: each top-up is an 'order', each merchant category restriction a 'product tag', and family sub-wallets are customer groups with spend caps. Supabase Row-Level Security enforces that a parent can see child-wallet transactions but not vice-versa. KNET payments are handled via a Medusa payment provider plugin. The Expo app consumes Medusa's REST API directly, keeping the mobile codebase thin.
