Overview
Medusa.js powers a B2B gifting portal for Saudi corporate clients ordering personalised gifts in bulk. Custom Medusa modules handle MOQ (minimum order quantity) pricing tiers, Arabic gift-message engraving with font-preview, and Mada/KNET payment-method plugins. Hijri-calendar seasonal promotions and a Saudi Aramco supplier-registration certificate flow are built in. Platform processes SAR 4.2M in orders in first 90 days.
The challenge
Corporate procurement teams in Saudi Arabia needed Mada payment support (the national debit network), Arabic gift engraving with a live font preview, and SAR-denominated invoices with VAT breakdowns. The founding team had tried two Western SaaS gifting platforms that could not handle any of these requirements without costly customisation. Aramco and SABIC vendor registration required a supplier certificate document flow that no off-shelf platform provided.
The solution
We extended the open-source Medusa.js commerce engine with a Mada payment provider plugin, an Arabic engraving module that renders a live font preview using an SVG canvas, and a custom supplier-certificate workflow that walks procurement buyers through IQAMA, CR, and VAT-certificate uploads. Hijri.js drives seasonal promotion scheduling for Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and Saudi National Day. All data is hosted in the AWS Bahrain region to satisfy Saudi data classification.
