Overview

WooCommerce-powered virtual try-on store with face-shape detection, lens prescription upload, Noor Takaful insurance claim integration, and buy-online-pick-up-in-branch fulfilment. Online revenue grows from 4% to 22% of total; prescription-upload orders 0 → 110/month.

The challenge

Customers were reluctant to buy prescription glasses online because they could not try frames virtually and were unsure their insurance would cover online purchases. The brand's existing WooCommerce site showed generic product photos with no personalisation layer. Noor Takaful — one of the UAE's largest eyewear insurance providers — had no documented integration path for online retailers, requiring a custom claims submission flow.

The solution

Our approach

We extended WooCommerce with a WebAR try-on layer that uses device camera and a Gemini face-shape classifier to recommend frame styles. A custom WooCommerce order type was created for prescription orders, with an upload interceptor that routes lens specs to the in-branch dispensing team. Noor Takaful's insurance API was reverse-engineered from their portal flow and wrapped in a WooCommerce payment-method plugin that handles pre-authorisation before order confirmation.

Outcomes

What we delivered

Online revenue share grew from 4% to 22% of total retail revenue within six months

Prescription-upload orders scaled from zero to 110 per month, a new revenue stream

Virtual try-on sessions averaged 4.2 minutes, significantly above the 58-second industry benchmark

Insurance claim submission success rate reached 96% with zero manual rework

“Our insurance integration alone tripled our average ticket size. Customers who previously only bought cheap frames online now order high-end prescriptions because insurance covers it.”
